When it comes to female penpals it seems to me that there are three reasons why people are searching for them (and believe me, they are searching for female penpals, a very popular search term).

Some are undoubtedly seeking female penpals (or female pen pals, if you prefer) because the searchers are male and would like to get to know females – for friendship to begin with, but with the aim of establishing a romantic relationship at some point. Such ‘male penpals’, as they might term themselves, would also no doubt make use of search terms such as ‘women penpals’.

Another group seeking female penpals would be other females or women who are looking for friendship-type penpals and for this reason want to exclude ‘male penpals’ from their search. the usage of the term ‘penpals’ may in some cases be a clue here, as some people use the form without a space separating the two words pen and pals when they mean friendship penpals as opposed to dating penpals. however, there appears to be at least equal numbers of people who do not make this distinction, so the validity of the distinction is dubious at best.

A third group seeking female penpals (or ‘women penpals’) would be not men but women who are seeking dating with other females. This much should be clear. What may not be so clear is why people in general, whether females or males, would search for ‘penpals’ when what they really want is dating.

Here at SingleDating.com we feel that it is a matter of taking a different approach. whereas ‘internet dating’ is rather ‘in your face’, so to speak, the penpals approach (or should that be the ‘pen pals’ approach) to dating is a gentler, more subtle one in which the participant is not immediately put ‘on the spot’ and so does not have certain expectations about why they are there. It’s a subtle difference, but being a female penpal or a male penpal provides room to get to know a wider group of people before any move is made towards a more romantic or ‘dating’ kind of development in a selected relationship.

A final category of female penpals worth mentioning only for the sake of completeness and because the sites catering to them appear in such numbers, is that of ‘prison penpals’. We do not advertise prison pen pals, and mention them only out of thoroughness.

It seems that when you search for ‘female penpals’ in your favorite search engine most of the sites that come up are about prison penpals. however wading through them in the search for non-prisoner pen pals we find the following. Female Pen Pals Online is for those searching for female penpals who are not prisoners, and Vinny Appleby there explains why. It’s interesting that I now see he has some similar thoughts on female penpals in general as those I have expressed on this page.

Other than those mentioned above, I struggled to find anything online which could add anything useful to what has already been said about female penpals here. of course there are lots of sites where you can search for female pen pals (here’s one from Nigeria: Female Penpals, Nigeria) but in terms of articles or useful information to be found when using the search term ‘female penpals’ there appears to be a dearth. Ah well…
