Jewel of a writer
WHAT an exhilarating story from this lady in her column, Book Nook (Connecting through books, Reads, June 3) and what a pleasure it was to be reading it back-to-back with her review of Dani Rodrik?s The Globalization Paradox (StarBizweek, June 2).
I have enjoyed immensely Abby Wong?s reviews of any sort, and do buy the books that she recommends. However, the biggest joy I get is from her fortnightly column.
She seems to have been blessed with a gift of writing, although the stuff she writes about is by no means easy. it must be hard, as I always imagine, to write about daily life and link it back to books. She pulls it off flawlessly.
And indeed, I did wish to be her penpal. In that way, I would be listening to her talk enthusiastically about books.
I would lend her both my ears ? if John, her penpal, only lent one ? and I wouldn?t be as deadpan as John was.
I wish I could, for she lights up my day every time she shows up with a review, or her bookish secrets in Book Nook.
Finally, there is a jewel of a writer in The Star and it is this lady with whom we all want to be penpals. please do not stop writing, Abby.
