National charity Migraine Action is appealing for local people to host a garden party on Friday, June 15, to help those with migraine, a condition which causes misery for millions of people in the UK.

The charity, which has been supporting people with migraine for more than 50 years, is inviting local people to organise an event at their own home, place of work, school / college or local community centre or other venue to help raise funds.

Its services, which include a telephone helpline, ‘ask the expert’ online forum, pen-pal scheme and members newsletter, aim to help migraineurs take control of their attacks and remove common feelings of isolation and desperation.

Charity direction Joanna Hamilton-Colclough says: “Migraine is not ‘just a bad headache’.

“It is classified by the World Health Organisation as amongst the top twenty most disabling lifetime conditions and can be extremely debilitating. for some it makes personal relationships difficult and can leave sufferers unable to work.

“A fundraising garden party is a great way to spend time with friends and family and help make a real difference to people battling to manage this much misunderstood condition at the same time.”

Migraine Action has produced a special Garden Party fundraising pack which includes lots of hints and tips to help make organising your garden party easy, plus recipe ideas and invitations.

As part of the Garden Party celebrations, Migraine Action is also running a sunflower growing competition in the run up to the big day. those ordering a fundraising pack will receive a free pack of sunflower seeds, while stocks last, to make sure they join in the fun!
