Pen Pals for Kids – From Moms

A Huge thanks to the Moms/Dads who gave me their Two cents on the Kids Pals Program!
THIS is WHY I do this… these kids are thrilled to write to a pen pal (with paper, not email)… wow! Love it!
Some of the parents have advised that the kids write — and get no reply! That’s so sad!! if you are a mom/dad, please have your child reply — short letter, draw something, just send something back so the kid on the other end isn’t disappointed. That’s what this is all about!

Just a note to let you know that Gracie received her list of pen pals yesterday, and oh!, she was THRILLED! she immediately sat down and wrote 4 letters! she was especially happy to receive names of pen pals from England, Australia, and the “little sister” 8 yr old who lives on an AFB, since we are a military family, too.
Gracie is always thrilled to receive letters, and I can always tell when she has received one because she jumps up and down at the mailbox and runs like crazy into the house, with the envelope held high up in the air, and a big smile on her face! Gracie always looks forward to going to the mailbox every day in anticipation of getting a letter, and when she doesn’t receive one, she is disappointed.
I cannot thank you enough, Wendy, for having this wonderful organization! I had MANY pen pals when I was a teenager, and what a wonderful opportunity for my daughter to have the same enjoyment of pen pals as I did!
Blessings, Patricia V, DC (Gracie’s Mom)
My daughter just sent her pen pal a birthday present. they have also exchanged pictures. she is very very excited to get postal mail! she checks the box every day.
Thank you so much. we really appreciate this. my son has a pen pal as well, he is 12. he stumbled on her in a different way, he answered her ad in our local newspaper for questions on Canada. she is from the states. they have kept up for close to a year, writing at least once a month back and forth. It has been a very positive experience for him on many levels, and I am looking forward to it being a positive one as well for my daughter.

I had three kids sign up. my 11 year old has written to 4 so far. my 9 year old wrote to 3. my 6 year old has written to 3. on responses, None for 11 yr old (but they were all overseas, probably hasn’t had time to get here yet). Two kids replied to the 9 yr old. One has responded to the 6 yr old. they like different pals: 11 yr old likes writing to foriegn pals, 9 yr old has found 2 others who also play guitar, 6 yr old looks for others who like cats too! The 9 year old has had two or three letters back and forth. The 6 yr old has also had a couple letters rec’d from the same boy. all three kids are eager to collect the mail each day.

My daughter did receive her Pen Pal list. she came in the house screaming and scared me to death, I didn’t know what was going on. she has already picked 1 to write to. Just today received a letter back from the girl and is writing her back right now. Thank you, Renee (Stephanie’s Mom)
Thanks so much for getting a penpal for my daughter Eimear who is 8 and very excited as she got her first letter today in the post. I’ve just registered for my son also today who is 10. Hopefully they will have life long friends. Kind regards, Anne from Ireland (Eimear’s mom)
Coincidentally – the day I sent you the last email saying we hadn’t heard from anyone – lo and behold – my daughter received a letter from Sonja K from Finland! Yay! so I guess we’re all set!
Kyra wanted foreign penpals and her found 2 from 2 countries – she has found similarities and has even hung their pictures on her bulletin board! Kyra is SOOO delighted by this. she writes back right away and has even insisted on getting US souvenirs for her foreign penpals.

My older daughter is so excited that she will get a pen pal, too! I printed out the form, so she will fill it out soon to mail (probably today, since we have our second snow day in a row!). my younger daughter wrote to one of the pals on her list so far and got a response right away. She’s thinking about writing to more pals. I hope you are able to continue doing this service with no other problems.
Thanks again, Lisa K (Katie’s mom)
The penpals are awesome! my daughter wrote to four of the children listed on the paper you sent and has already received two letters back. she wrote return letters the same day that she received hers! they are now exchanging pictures and seem to have a lot in common. she is so excited about her penpals and shares with everyone about them! she has teachers at school asking about your site now also so you may be getting more requests soon. thanks for a great program!
Anne decided she wanted a girl pen pal, and chose the one on the list who lives about 5 miles from us, rather than someone overseas, etc. she said she wanted to write to the closest girl as that way they maybe could have a playdate.
My children are THRILLED when they get letters; sometimes they get pretty impatient. 2 out of 4 pen pals continue to write. One pen pal sometimes just sends pictures she draws to my daughter- with no letter – and my daughter likes this just as much. they try to find things in common with each other.
I’m happy that you’re doing this for the kids and hope it continues. my daughter doesn’t like to write much in school, but she’ll write pages and pages for her pen pal
My daughter wrote to one of the children on the list who seemed to share her interests. Then she waited every day for several weeks for a response. It never came. she was so disappointed, she hasn’t tried writing anyone else on the list, but I’m sure she’ll get around to it.

My granddaughter chose a girl in Canada to write to and so far she has not had a reply. she was absolutely excited to receive the list of penpals and is looking forward to getting a reply.
there are no negatives and all is well with everything so far. she got her mum to help her chose who to write to and also sent a photo of herself she wrote the letter herself although it was only a short one to start with.
If she gets a reply then I daresay the next letter will be a bit longer. Thank you for your enquiry.
